EVANSVILLE, Ind. -

            After going into the break trailing by four, The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team was outscored by Evansville 33-10 through the first 11 minutes of the second half on the way to a 75-49 loss in Roberts Stadium Thursday night. The Panthers shot 15.2 percent (5-of-33) from the floor in the second half, compared to 64 percent (16-of-25) second-half shooting by the Aces.

            The Panthers (13-10, 7-5) were led by Jessie Biggs, who scored 19 points. Tara King added 10 points for UNI.

            Evansville (15-8, 8-4) had three players in double figures, led by Rebekah Parker who finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Ashli Senff scored 13 points and Ashley Austin added 11 points for the Aces.

            Evansville scored on its first three possessions, taking an early 7-0 lead. Biggs put UNI on the board with a jump shot at 17:52, but Laura Gaybrick dumped in four quick points and Ashley Senff hit a layup to put the Aces in front, 13-2 with 14:54 on the clock.


 

 

            A jump shot from Megan Keefe and a three from Traci Ollendieck pulled UNI within six, 13-7, but the Aces rattled off six quick points to build a 19-7 advantage at 11:46.

            Sarah Larsen and Ollendieck each hit jump shots to trim the Evansville advantage to eight, then Ollendieck hit a three to pull the Panthers within five, 19-14 at 8:25.

            A basket from Shannon Novosel put the Aces back in front by seven, but a three from King and a pair of free throws brought the Panthers within two points, 21-19 at 5:41.

            Novosel and King traded baskets, and then Anaris Sickles extended the EU lead to four with a basket at the four-minute mark. On UNI's next trip, Biggs hit a three from the right wing to trim the Panther deficit to one, 25-24 at 3:45.

            The Aces outscored UNI 9-4 over the next three minutes, and took a 34-28 lead on a three from Ashley Senff with 30 seconds on the clock. A basket from Biggs pulled UNI within four, and the teams went into the break with Evansville in front, 34-30.

            Evansville opened the second half scoring five points in the first minute of play and building a 39-30 lead.

            Leading 43-35 with 15:30 left to play the Aces rolled off eight unanswered points over the next two minutes to build a 51-35 advantage with 13:36 minutes remaining.

            Biggs ended the Panther scoring drought with a three at 12:50, but Ashley Austin answered at the other end to keep the Aces' lead at 16.

            A basket from Parker put Evansville in front 56-38 with 11:40 left. Robyn Jennings knocked down a three for EU, then Senff hit a pair of free throws to build a 61-40 lead for the Aces. Novosel and Parker hit threes to stretch the Evansville lead to 27, 67-40 with 9:05 left, capping a 16-2 run by Evansville.

            Evansville led by at least 22 the rest of the way.

            UNI shot 27.4 percent (17-of-16) from the floor, after shooting 41.4 percent (12-of-29) in the first half. The Panthers were 5-of-24 (20.8 percent) from three-point range and 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from the free-throw line.

            Evansville shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the floor, including 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from behind the arc. The Aces were 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they play at Southern Illinois at 2:05 p.m.
