Panther Women Extinguish Flames
Nov. 20, 2004 Cedar Falls, Iowa - Cedar Falls- The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team faced Illinois-Chicago in their season opener tonight (Nov. 20) in the West Gym and defeated the Flames 72-58. The Panthers led the first half 36-28, sinking 5-of-10 three point shots with a 44 percent field goal percentage, while the Flames made just 12-of-30 shots in the paint. UNI capitalized on Illinois-Chicago's 16 turnovers, scoring 21 points on steals. UNI's bench also contributed to the win, with 23 points scored by non-starters, while Illinois-Chicago managed only four bench points. Emily Berry finished 3-of-9 behind the three-point line and ended the night making seven of eight free throws. Cassie Hager added 14 points, with seven rebounds and five blocks. Alex Cook pulled down nine rebounds and contributed eight points, while redshirt freshman Traci Ollendieck recorded 14 points in her Panther debut and went 2-for-2 behind the three-point line. Chrissy Dizon accounted for 23 of Illinois-Chicago's 58 points, going 10-for-10 at the free throw line and racking up three steals. Amber Washington contributed 14 points for the Flames, with two blocked shots and three rebounds. The Panthers travels to Murray, Ky. this Tuesday (Nov. 23) to take on the Murray State Lady Racers.
