The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team closed out the 2008 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships with a strong third-place finish Tuesday at the Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Neb. The Panthers shot a 332 in the third day of competition to give them an overall three-round score of 963.

Pre-championship favorite Illinois State (941) won its league-record ninth title, and first since 2005, with an 11-shot victory over defending champion Southern Illinois (952). The Redbirds, who had four players in the top-11, are led by first-year coach Darby Sligh. Drake sophomore Olivia Lansing won medalist honors, firing a final-round 77 for a 54-hole total of 227.

For the third straight day, the day's events featured a hole-in-one. Indiana State's Diana Price aced her final hole of the day, the par-3 ninth hole that measured 180 yards. Price used a 7-wood for her ace.

UNI was led by sophomore Molly Schemm (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) with a second-place finish for the tournament. Schemm steadily moved her way up the leader board each day and posted a third-round score of 78 on the final day of competition, finishing with an overall score of 230. Schemm and Drake's Olivia Lansing were the only individual players to break 80 all three rounds.

Sophomore Ann Arnason (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) finished the tournament tied for 15th place with a three-round score of 242. Arnason carded an 86 in the third round.

Redshirt freshman Sabrina Danielson (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Southeast Polk) finished tied for 19th place, firing a final-round 84 to finish with a three-round score of 244.

Junior Kim Weber (Bernard, Iowa/Cascade) moved up two spots from yesterday to a 24th-place finish after registering an 84 in the final round, giving her an overall total of 247.

Heather Frye (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) stayed tied for 46th place after the third day with a score of 261. The junior shot an 89 in the final round of play.

Freshman Shanon Davis (Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) slipped down to finish tied for 52nd place with a three-round score of 264. The freshman shot a 94 on the final 18 holes to round things out for the Panthers.

The 2008 State Farm MVC Championships concluded the Panthers spring season. The team will be back in action this fall.
