April 16, 2007

After the second day of competition at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Peoria, Ill., the Panthers are tied with Evansville in fifth-place.  Emily Heseman led the team in scoring today, carding a 79.

Molly Schemm and Heather Frye were right behind Heseman, shooting rounds of 80 today.  Stef Nelson shot an 81 today, but still leads the team in the overall tournament standings.  She is in 21st place, and close behind her is teammate Schemm, who is in a tie for the 23rd spot.

"We just aren't doing as well as we thought we would," said head coach John Bermel.  "We are hitting bad shots at the wrong times."

The Panthers are paired with Illinois State for the third time tomorrow.  The final round of the MVC Championship will start at 7:30 a.m.  The last two days there has been a frost delay, but they are not expecting one for Tuesday's competition.

"We are not done yet," Bermel said.  "Hopefully we can at least move ahead of Evansville and Illinois State tomorrow and then we will see what happens.  We aren't giving up."

Bradley shot a round of 296 today pushing them into second.  They are three behind Southern Illinois and four ahead of third-place Missouri State.

After the final round tomorrow the coaches will vote for Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.  Players eligible for these awards were nominated prior to the tournament.
