Panther Women Card 308, Finish 5th
April 17, 2007
The 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Golf Championship wrapped up today with
Nelson not only led the team today, she finished with the lowest total score of 233, good enough to put her in a tie for 14th. Three other Panther golfers had scores in the 70s today, Molly Schemm (77), Emily Heseman (79) and Kim Weber (79). "We played pretty well today," said head coach John Bermel. "It was nice to get four scores in the 70s again, we haven't done that in awhile."
At one point today the Panthers were in ninth place, but they battled back to finish in the fifth spot. "The girls deserve a huge amount of credit, not only for coming back today, but for their efforts throughout the whole tournament," Bermel said. Freshman, Schemm received two awards today for her consistent play and great team leadership abilities. First, she was named a member of the 2007 All-Conference Team along with nine other golfers. Second, she was voted Newcomer of the Year by the MVC head coaches. "These honors are incredible accomplishments for anyone, especially a freshmen, we as a team are very happy and proud of Molly," Bermel said. For seniors Nelson and Heseman this tournament marked their last as Panther golfers.
