IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team showed tremendous improvement from its first two tournaments of the year and earned a third-place showing at the 2008 Hawkeye Invitational.

The Panthers finished only eight strokes behind tournament winner Ball State (921) in the two-day, three-round event held at Finkbine Golf Course. The course measured 6,202 yards and played to a par-72. UNI tallied a team score of 929 for the event. Iowa finished second, three strokes ahead of the Panthers at 926 (+62).

Senior Kim Weber (Bernard, Iowa/Cascade HS) secured the best tournament finish of her collegiate career as she placed fourth with a final round score of 75. Weber finished the Hawkeye Invitational at 11-over par, only five shots behind the winner, Drake's Olivia Lansing.

Not only was Weber solid in the tournament, but the entire starting five for the Panthers finished in the top 36. Freshman Blair Bonner (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) tied for 18th at 19-over par (235). Sophomore Sabrina Danielson (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Southeast Polk HS) tied for 23rd at 20-over par (236). Junior Ann Arnason (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) tied for 30th at 23-over par (239). Senior Heather Frye (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge HS) tied for 36th at 24-over par (240).

UNI's next fall action is slated for Oct. 21-22 in Panora, Iowa, at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview.
