Sophomore Molly Schemm was named an honorable-mention selection for the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete team the league announced today. Schemm holds a cumulative 3.33 grade point average while majoring in Movement and Exercise Science.

Schemm led the Panthers in eight-of-nine contests this past season, competing in nine contests with 24 rounds played. The sophomore finished in the top-15 individually in eight-out-nine tournaments. She posted her top performance at the Western Illinois Invite (Sept. 16-17) with a second-place tie and a two-round score of 152.

At the 2008 MVC Golf Championship Schemm took second place honors with an overall score of 230 (76-76-79), making the All-Conference team and was one of only two players to break 80 in all three rounds of the Championship. During the season Schemm averaged 77.9 strokes and shot a low-round score of 73 in the first round of the Western Invite (Sept. 16-17) and in the first round of the Saluki Invite (March 30-31).

A total of six student-athletes earned first-team scholar-athlete honors, and an additional four earned honorable-mention status. Of those 10 student-athletes, eight also earned all-conference honors. The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic ESPN the Magazine All-America voting.  Nominees must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds or played at the State Farm MVC Championship.

A total of 29 student-athletes were nominated for women's golf scholar-athlete honors.  Golf sports information directors in the conference voted for the award.
