Oct. 27-28 – Palmetto Intercollegiate
Kiawah Island, S.C. – Oak Point Golf Course (6,105 Yards, Par 72)

The University of Northern Iowa women’s golf team will close the fall portion of its schedule with the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 27-28. The tournament will be held at Oak Point Golf Course (6,105 Yards, Par 72) in Kiawah Island, S.C. The College of Charleston will serve as the tournament host. Play will begin Monday at 8 a.m. with 36 holes, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday.

ON THE TEE BOX

Clyde Johnston, a noted Southeastern golf course architect, designed Oak Point on the grounds of former tomato and indigo plantation. Undulating fairways and challenging greens are some of the unique features of Oak Point.

Oak Point is a shotmaker’s course. Strategy and a thinking approach to the golf course will be rewarded over pure power. In this sense, it is a bit of a throwback to the classic courses of the 1920s where the ability to place the ball in a certain portion of the fairway or a certain spot of the green was more important than power. Throw in the beautiful vistas and it is easy to understand why Oak Point recently received a near-perfect 4½ stars from the readers of Golf Digest magazine in their biennial "Best Places to Play" poll where it was rated one of the best values in South Carolina.

Senior Kim Weber (Bernard, Iowa/Cascade HS) leads the Panthers this year with an 80.4 stroke average through four tournaments and 10 rounds of golf. Weber has also tallied a team-best three sub-80 rounds this season. She fired a season-best 74 in the second round of the Hawkeye Invitational on Oct. 4.

The Panthers finished in fifth at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course. The Panthers shot a second-round team score of 329, after firing an opening-round 330.

UNI was led by senior Ann Arnason’s first-round 77 at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview meet held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course. Arnason’s 77 left her in a tie for third place after day one. For Arnason, it marked her second sub-80 round of the season. Arnason finished the tournament in 16th place with a two-round total of 164.
