UNI SOCCER FALLS TO WESTERN ILLINOIS, 4-1

Macomb, Ill. - Western Illinois dealt the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team its second straight loss of the season Sunday, topping the Panthers 4-1 in Macomb. The loss moves UNI's record to 0-2.

Junior transfer Jackie Gielau (Denver, Iowa/Denver/Luther College) netted the Panthers' lone goal on a penalty kick in the 79th minute. Western Illinois took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute and extended its lead with goals in the 48th and 53rd minutes. Gielau's goal brought UNI within two goals, but WIU scored in the 81st minute to earn a 4-1 advantage.

Gielau's goal was her first of the season, as well as the team's first score.

The Panthers travel to the University of Nevada Soccer Tournament next week, kicking off play Sept. 1st against Weber State. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
