Box Score

Cedar Falls, Iowa -

The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with the Golden Gophers this evening but were unable to overcome a halftime deficit.  UNI lost 3-1 at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex, despite holding Minnesota scoreless in the second period.

The contest turned physical in the early stages of the first period as each team traded two yellow cards and double-digit fouls.  Sophomore Amy Seubert left the game in the final minutes of the first period with an injury to the back of her head, but fortunately was able to return later in the game.

Gopher Lindsey Schwartz scored her fourth goal of the season at the 17:26 minute mark, giving Minnesota an early lead.  UNI's freshman forward Lindsey Daugherty tied up the game in the 24th minute, getting an assist from junior Kira Anderson.   Daugherty, a native of Loveland, Colo., now leads the team with three goals on the season.

Minnesota then scored two back-to-back goals in the 42nd minute of the game.  Kaitlin Wagner scored at 42:30, using a corner kick by Becky Dellaria.

Sophomore goalie Krista Thorley recorded eight saves for the Panthers.

The Panthers return to action Sunday as they host Western Illinois at 1:00 p.m.  UNI is 1-4-0 on the season and looking to break a 2-2-1 series tie with the Leathernecks.
