Box Score

Cedar Falls, Iowa -

- The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team fell to Western Illinois (WIU) this afternoon at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.  The Panthers were unable to match the Leathernecks' four goals, being outscored 4-0 in the windy battle.

Freshman Katelyn Wisner recorded WIU's first goal at the 4:16 minute mark, assisted by freshman Ashley Hoch.  Hoch later scored her own goal in the 21st minute to give the Leathernecks a 2-0 edge at halftime.  Sophomore Kelly Warner and Wisner both scored in the second period.

Freshman forward Lindsey Daugherty led the Panthers with three shots, one on goal, and sophomore goalkeeper Krista Thorley had a season-high 10 saves.

UNI takes to the road for its next two weekends, spanning the countryside.  The Panthers are 1-5-0 and travel to the Blue Hen Adidas Classic to face the host team, Delaware, and Towson next weekend.  They then play in Oklahoma against Tulsa (9/23) and Oral Roberts (9/25).

"We have some things to do and there are some bad habits to break. The bottom line is that we need to be ready to play," interim head coach Kathy Kakoyianni-Bering said. "Friday they came out.  They came out hard and they came out with heart.  I was very proud of them.  For them to not show up today was very disappointing.

"It is going to take some time; we are starting from ground zero.  We need to break some habits first and then start our new era of UNI women's soccer."
