Box Score

Newark, Del. - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team took the Blue Hens into double overtime as each team traded two goals in regulation. Senior Shanon Dechant and freshman Lindsey Daugherty both scored a goal for UNI. Delaware's Caitlyn Germain scored the game-winner to defeat UNI 3-2 with three minutes remaining in the second overtime.

"It was a great game. We went head-to-head with a really good team," head coach Kathy Kakoyianni said. "In the second overtime, we actually outshot them. We had them on the run and one of their top scorers got through and she put it away to win. We are proud of our performance and the girls played their hearts out."

The Blue Hens scored first at the 33:58 minute mark and then UNI answered seven minutes later as Dechant scored her third goal of the season in the 40th minute. Delaware then took a 2-1 lead early in the second period. The Panthers were able to keep it scoreless for the remainder of regulation.

Daugherty knotted the game with less than four minutes remaining in regulation on an assist by Dechant, forcing overtime. Sophomore goalie Krista Thorley tallied a season-high 11 saves in 107:00 minutes.

The Panthers continue their stay in Delaware, facing Towson Sunday at the Blue Hen Adidas Classic. UNI is 1-6-0 and looking for its first road win. The Tigers are now 3-1-1, losing to Georgetown earlier today.
