PANTHERS FALL 3-1 TO EVANSVILLE

Evansville, Ind.--Jackie Gielau's second goal in as many games wasn't enough to propel the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team to another victory, Sunday, as the Panthers fell 3-1 to Evansville. The game was called during the 85th minute due to an injury sustained by Gielau.

Gielau (Denver, Iowa/Denver) put ball to net in the 24th minute after assists by Amy Seubert (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) and Jana Teague (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) sprung her to open field. The junior beat EU keeper Witney Raeon from 10 yards out to give UNI a 1-0 advantage.

Purple Ace forward Kayla Lambert evened the score at one in the 37th minute with a two-yarder around UNI goalkeeper Heidi O'Mara (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area). The teams played a scoreless game to the break, and entered halftime knotted at one.

Lambert knocked through her second goal of the game in the 69th minute to give Evansville a 2-1 lead. One more Purple Ace goal brought the final score to 3-1.

The Panthers took just three shots compared to EU's 21, and scored on their lone shot-on-goal. Gielau's goal was her fourth of the season and gave her the team lead. Teague's assist gave her two on the season, also a team best.

The Panthers fall to 1-14-0 on the season, 1-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Evansville improves to 7-6-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the Valley.

The Panthers travel to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners Friday, Oct. 20. Game time is at 7 p.m.
