Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team ended its regular season on a high note, Monday, topping South Dakota 1-0 in overtime for its sixth win of the season. Freshman Ericka O'Meara scored the game-winning goal in the third minute of overtime.

The first two periods were highlighted by excellent defense and stellar goalkeeping. UNI keeper Heidi O'Mara (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) held the Coyote offense scoreless and stopped six shots during regulation. South Dakota goalie Ann Opsahl matched O'Mara blow-for-blow to force the game into overtime.

Freshman O'Meara (Rochester, Minn./Century) took control in the overtime period and needed fewer than three minutes to shift the game to UNI. O'Meara made good on a 40-ft blast past Opsahl to the top-right corner of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 victory.

The goal was O'Meara's second of the season and first game-winner. O'Mara earned her sixth shutout in-goal after shutting down the South Dakota offense for more than 92 minutes.

The game marked the fifth overtime contest of the 2007 season for UNI. The Panthers are 2-1-2 in overtime games thus far.

The Panthers end the 2007 regular season with a 6-9-2 overall mark and a 1-4-1 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. South Dakota falls to 7-9-3 on the season.

UNI travels to Creighton Sunday, Nov. 4 for the opening round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. Game time is at 1 p.m.
