The University of Northern Iowa women’s soccer team looks to earn its first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season this weekend as they travel to MVC league-leader Evansville Saturday evening. The Panthers and Purple Aces are set to kickoff at 7 p.m. in Evansville, Ind. UNI enters the contest at 3-13-1 and 0-4 in MVC play, while Evansville is 8-3-2 and 3-1 in the MVC.

LAST TIME OUT...

UNI struggled to find the back of the net in its last two contests, dropping a 3-0 contest in MVC play to Missouri State Friday evening. The Panthers were unable to re-group and suffered a 1-0 conference loss to Illinois State Sunday.

Nicole Ferlito led the way for the Panther offense against the Bears, taking four shots. Goalkeeper Lauren Potzman registered double-digit saves for the Panthers in their two contests, registering 11 saves in both the Missouri State and Illinois State games.

LEADING THE CHARGE

Besides leading the offensive charge for the Panthers this season, Chelsie Hochstedler also leads the Valley in shots taken. Hochstedler is tied with Marcy Gans of Creighton with 54 shots this season. Hochstedler has played in all of UNI’s 17 games this season.

SCORING STREAK

Chelsie Hochsteder and Nicole Ferltio have been the consistent scoring leaders for the Panthers this season. Hochstedler held a four-game scoring streak, dating back to Sept. 21 when UNI topped North Dakota State. Hochstedler’s streak was broken against Drake (Oct. 1). Hochstedler leads the team with 15 total points, while Ferlito follows with 10. Hochstedler and Ferlito have combined for 12 of the Panthers 16 goals with Hochstedler recording seven and Ferlito tallying five.

About EVANSVILLE

The Purple Aces come into this weekend’s contest boasting a record of 8-3-2 and 3-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Aces are currently in first place in the Valley standings, with their lone Valley loss coming at the hands of Drake. Kayla Lambert leads the offensive charge for the Aces, leading the Valley in points-per-game with 2. Lambert has registered 11 goals and four assists for 26 points this season. Nicole Moyen and Mia Tofana also lead the Valley in assists with .46 and .38 respectively. The Aces lead the all-time series against the Panthers 1-5-2, however last season neither team could find the back of the net, and the game ended with a 0-0 tie.

PRESS LUNCHEONS

Each Monday, UNI’s in-season coaches speak at noon in the back room of Pepper’s Grill and Sports Pub, located on 18th St. in Cedar Falls.  The public and media are invited to attend and hear what the coaches have to say about their season.
