Box Score

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Senior Ashley Lepley threw her second-consecutive complete game and junior Crystal Keiper launched her second home run in as many days to power the University of Northern Iowa softball team to a 7-2 win over South Dakota State on Saturday in the Ramada UNI-Dome Classic.

Lepley held the Jackrabbits to just four hits and pitched six scoreless innings before SDSU tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh to improve to 2-0 on the season, while UNI avenged its first loss of the season, which came at the hands of SDSU Friday.

The Panthers' offense tagged South Dakota State starter Jenna Marston, who entered the game with all three of the Jacks' pitching wins, for seven runs on 12 hits. SDSU also suffered the effects of three fielding errors.

Senior Stephanie Aguero (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) led the way for UNI with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, driving in three runs in the process. Jen Larsen (Moline, Ill./Moline) went 2-for-3, while sophomore Megan Machovec (DeWitt, Iowa/Central) posted a 2-for-4 effort form the leadoff spot that included a pair of runs scored.

UNI opened the game with five consecutive hits, but were held to only two runs as two runners were caught stealing and a third was cut down at the plate attempting to score.

The hot hitting continued for the Panthers in the second, though, as UNI pushed three runs across to build a 5-0 edge. Crystal Keiper (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) put up the first tally by scoring off a Machovec single.  Aguero then drove in two runs with a double to left center, plating Machovec and Kelly Papesh (Minooka, Ill./Minooka).

Keiper blasted her second home run of the season in the third inning, a two-run shot to center field, to bring in Larsen and put the Panthers up 7-0.

South Dakota State got on the board in the seventh, plating runs on a double by Kiley Schwedhelm that sent Sam Heinzman home and a sacrifice fly by Ashley Durazo.

South Dakota State concluded its opening weekend with a 3-1 record, while the Panthers (2-1) wrap up the Ramada UNI-Dome Classic immediately following the game in a matchup with North Dakota.
