Panthers Fall to Salukis in 10March 27, 2005 Cedar Falls, IA--The University of Northern Iowa softball team fell to Southern Illinois 2-1 in a 10-inning affair, Sunday. The Panthers lost despite a razor-sharp pitching effort from freshman Amanda Hess. UNI claimed the lead in the third when senior Tracy Davis plated Jamie Kelling with an RBI single. The Panthers held the lead until the seventh inning when the Salukis scored on an error to tie the game and send it to extras. Both squads refused to budge in extra innings until SIU took the lead and the game with a run in the 10th. Erin Strellner led the Panther offense with three hits, finishing 3-4 on the day. Hess pitched like a pro for 7.1 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just one unearned run for the no decision. Liz Adams pitched well in extra innings, throwing 2.2 frames and allowing one run on two hits for the loss. Her record now stands at 3-1. The Panthers dip to 10-10 overall, 2-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. SIU moves to 22-8 overall, 5-1 in the MVC. UNI hosts Iowa Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
