Box Score

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa softball team suffered an 11-0 setback to instate rival Iowa in its final road game of the season Tuesday at Pearl Field.

The Hawkeyes jumped out with three runs in the first inning and put the Panthers in a deeper hole with another pair of markers in the third frame.  Back-to-back home runs in the fourth by Kylie Murray and Morelock then put Iowa up 8-0, and a two-run double by Emily Gerlick pushed that lead to 10-0.  Gerlick then scored on a fielder's choice by Colleen Heidgerken to give the Hawkeyes their final 11-0 lead and force an early end to the contest after five innings.

UNI managed only two hits on the day, singles by Dyann Peterson (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Rachael Rogers (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert).

Monica Wright (7-18) took the loss for UNI after giving up six earned runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings in the circle, while Iowa's Ali Arnold picked up the win by holding the Panthers scoreless on just two hits.

The Panthers (12-34-1, 2-17 MVC) host Bradley in a single game Thursday at Panther Park before Illinois State comes to Cedar Falls for a three-game weekend series beginning at noon Saturday.
