Cedar Falls, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa softball team opened up the Big Four Classic with a 5-3 loss to the University of Iowa today in exhibition play at the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex. The Hawkeyes finished 42-20 last year and qualified for the NCAA tournament.

 

The Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Hawkeyes cut into the Panther lead on a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

 

The Panthers held the lead 3-2 going into the seventh inning, but the Hawkeyes pushed three runs across the plate to earn the victory.

 

No official statistics or records are kept during the exhibition season.

 

The Panthers will return to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader with Drake and Iowa State. UNI will battle the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. and the Cyclones at 3 p.m. at the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.
