CEDAR FALLS, Iowa –UNI softball players Jen Larsen and Kelly Papesh earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors the league announced today. Larsen (Moline, Ill.) was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete first team for the second straight year, while UNI senior Kelly Papesh (Minooka, Ill.) was placed on the honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
Larsen, who is majoring in biology, holds a 3.54 GPA in the classroom. On the softball field, Larsen went 18-12 in the pitcher’s circle with a team-leading 2.12 ERA and also slammed nine home runs with a .312 batting average. Larsen was only one of three players to earn repeat first-team MVC Scholar-Athlete honors.
Papesh, an elementary education major with a minor in health education, has maintained a 3.60 GPA in the classroom. On the field, Papesh started 53 games at catcher for the Panthers and slammed a team-leading 12 home runs, which tied her for the MVC home run lead. Papesh also drove in 27 runs and batted .236 at the plate.
This is the first time since 2005 the Panthers have had multiple recipients earn MVC Scholar-Athlete honors.
