CARBONDALE, Ill.The University of Northern Iowa women’s swimming team finished in fourth place at the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming Championships along with head coach Stacey Simmer being named one of the MVC Coaches of the Year.

 

Junior Maggie Rickert set the school record in the 100-yard freestyle in the preliminaries only to re-set the record in the final round, clocking it at 52.72. In the 400-yard freestyle relay the Panther team of Rickert, Maegan Miller, Ashley Hunter and Josie Itzen took down the second school record finishing in 3:32.94 for fourth place.


 

 

 

The quartet of Hunter, Miller, Itzen and Rickert took fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay clocking in at 1:37.74. Chelsea Hartman took second place in the 500-yard freestyle shattering her previous season-best of 5:04.14 to finish in 4:58.24.

 

In the 200-yard IM Itzen took fifth place finishing in 2:09.80. The 800-yard freestyle team of Itzen, Hunter, Abby Girard and Chelsea Hartman finished fourth in 7:47.50. In the 1,650-yard freestyle Hartman took sixth place, finishing in 17:27.70.

 

Abby Moes took sixth place in the 200-yard backstroke finishing in a season-best 2:07.03. Girard finished close behind in 8th place with a time of 2:09.00.

 

UNI’s head coach Stacey Simmer was named MVC Coach of the Year along with Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. Freshman Chelsea Hartman earned All-MVC honors along with Abby Girard, Josie Itzen, Abby Moes, Maggie Rickert and Stephanie Yattoni earning Honorable Mention All-MVC honors.
