Panthers Fall to SDSU, Northern ColoradoNov. 14, 2009
The Women's swimming and diving team started the day with a tri-meet at 10 a.m. The Panthers fell to both South Dakota State(140-100) and Northern Colorado(136-104).
The 200 medley relay team of Abby Girard, Ashley Mangrich, Maggie Rickert and Josie Itzen picked up the second place spot with a time of 4:05.56.
Chelsea Hartman took the top-spot in the 1,650 freestyle. She finished with a time of 17:32.60, almost 40 seconds in front of the second place finisher from South Dakota State. Hartman joined forces with Stephanie Yattoni, April Mangrich and Itzen to capture the first place spot in the 800 freestyle relay. They finished with a time of 8:03.31.
Josie Itzen took third, from a field of twelve, in the 200 freestyle. She clocked in with a time of 1:59.31. Taking the fifth place spot was teammate Kelly Mateas with a time of 2:02.21.
With a time of 25.46, Stephanie Frederick finished fourth in the 50 freestyle. Frederick also anchored the 200 freestyle relay team, finishing with a second place finish. Along with teammates, Rickert, Caitlin Krengel and Jean Matzen, the relay team clocked in with a time of 1:42.84.
Abby Girard took second in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 2:09.56. A. Girard also captured third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.33. Ashley Mangrich was right behind her in fourth clocking in at 2:19.20.
Maggie Rickert took first in the 100 freestyle. She finished with a time of 54.45 in a field of eleven girls.
Bethany Olson took the runner-up spot in the 1-meter finishing with 219.10 points. Olson also finished fourth in the 3-meter dive with 240.50 points.
After a break, the Panthers returned to the pool to compete in another tri-meet. The Panthers again fell short to both SDSU(125-98) and UNC(144-79)
Hartman continued to be strong for the Panthers, taking the top-spot in the 500 freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:08.52. She also took second in the 200 freestyle (1:56.28) and joined teammates Rickert, Frederick and Itzen for a 3:42.33 runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
April Mangrich finished with a time of 5:18.71 for a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Steph Frederick placed third in the 50 freestyle. She clocked in with a time of 25.53. Teammate Rickert finished in third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.41.
In the 400 IM, Itzen(4:45.36) and A.Girard(4:49.66)took the second and third spots, respectively. A. Girard also took second in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:00.87. Itzen finished fourth in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 55.41.
The Panthers next action will come next Fri.-Sun., Nov. 20-22, as they head to the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City.
