LINCOLN, Nebraska - The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming team finished out the Husker Invitational Sunday with a fourth-place team finish, surpassing Nebraska-Omaha, a team they had been trailing since Friday night's finals.

The Panthers were led by sophomore Abby Girard (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls), and her seventh-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Girard finished in a time of 2:11.22, just ahead of teammate Abby Moes (Sioux City, Iowa/East), who finished the race in tenth.

Another Sophomore, Amanda Firman (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) finished the 100-yard freestyle event in 16th place, stopping the timer at 54.60. Freshman teammate Josie Itzen (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) finished 22nd in the race as well for the Panthers.

Freshman Kelly McCullough swam to a 12th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing just ahead of teammate Melissa Little (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) who finished in a tie for 13th. McCullough swam a 2:18.08 to pace the Panthers in the event.

The Panthers will now have a bunch of time off until their next meet. The Panthers are scheduled to swim in Boca Raton, Florida on Jan. 3, 2008 against Clemson and Florida Atlantic in a double-dual. The time of the meet hasn't been decided.
