Panthers Fall Short To Iowa

The UNI Swimming and Diving team came up short against Iowa, 160-60. The Panthers came home with six runner-up spots in the dual. Both the 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays took second for the night. The quartet of Abby Girard, Josie Itzen, Maggie Rickert and Stephanie Frederick swam both relay events. The 400 medley finished in 4:07.14 and the 200 freestyle finished in 1:40.68. Abby Girard took second in the 50 backstroke. She finished with a time of 28.18. Teammates Jody Petersen (29.16) and Stephanie Frederick (29.38) took fifth and sixth, respectively. Kelly McCullough finished with at time of 5:20.36 in the 500 freestyle. She swam her fastest time of the season to come in with a second-place finished. Stephanie Yattoni, with a time of 5:26.30, finished in third-place.
Bethany Olson took the runner-up spot in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive. She finished with 257.50 points in the 1-meter dive and 260.40 points in the 3-meter dive. Ashley Mangrich finished in third in the 50 breaststroke. She finished with a time of 32.87. Sarah Hedeen took fourth, with a time of 33.46, followed by Caitlin Krengel, in fifth, with a time of 34.07. Chelsea Hartman (1:58.33), Stephanie Yattoni (2:01.63) and Kelly McCullough (2:01.87) took fifth through seventh in the 200 freestyle, respectively. Hartman also swam a season-best time in the 100 freestyle finishing with a time of 56.23. Josie Itzen took fifth in the 100 IM, clocking in at 1:03.36. With a time of 25.10, Maggie Rickert took fifth in the 50 freestyle. She also took seventh in the 50 butterfly, clocking in with a time of 27.19. Next week, the Panthers will head to Carbondale, Ill., compete in the State Farm MVC Championships. Competition with start Thursday, Feb. 11th and finish Saturday, Feb. 13th.
