THIS WEEK IN PANTHER SWIMMING/DIVING
Feb. 11-13, 2010 at State Farm MVC Championships
• The Panthers head to Carbondale, Ill., to compete in the 2010
State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships.
• The meet will be held in the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorim on
the Southern Illinois University campus.
• Competition will begin Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. and continue
through Feb. 13 with Day 3 finals set to begin at 4 p.m.
Swimming/Diving Notes
The Panthers last action came on Feb. 5 against Iowa. Here are some notes about
the meet:
• Both the 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays took second for the night. The quartet of
Abby Girard, Josie Itzen, Maggie Rickert and Stephanie Frederick swam both relay events.
The 400 medley finished in 4:07.14 and the 200 freestyle finished in 1:40.68.
• Abby Girard took second in the 50 backstroke. She finished with a time of 28.18.
Teammates Jody Petersen (29.16) and Stephanie Frederick (29.38) took fifth and sixth,
respectively.
• Kelly McCullough finished with at time of 5:20.36 in the 500 freestyle. She swam her
fastest time of the season to come in with a second-place finished. Stephanie Yattoni, with
a time of 5:26.30, finished in third-place.
• Bethany Olson took the runner-up spot in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive. She
finished with 257.50 points in the 1-meter dive and 260.40 points in the 3-meter dive.
• Ashley Mangrich finished in third in the 50 breaststroke. She finished with a time of
32.87. Sarah Hedeen took fourth, with a time of 33.46, followed by Caitlin Krengel, in fifth,
with a time of 34.07.
Diver of the Week
For the second time this season, Bethany Olson received the State Farm MVC Diver of the Week
Award. Olson took the top-spot for both the one-meter and three-meter dives against Minnesota
State-Mankato. She finished with 239.7 points in the one-meter dive and 271.65 points in the
three-meter dive. Both point values rank her within the top seven of the conference heading into
the State Farm MVC Championships. Just a freshman, Olson continues to consistently perform and
add points for UNI’s team score.
All-American Scholar Athlete Team
The UNI swimming and diving team was named to the fall 2009 All-American Scholar Athlete team
by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. UNI had a team GPA of 3.35 for the 2009
fall semester.
