The Panthers’ last action came on Feb. 12-14 at the State Farm MVC Championships. Here are some of the highlights from that meet and for the year.

 

Chelsea Hartman was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished in 4:58.24, which was a new school record. She also broke the school record in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 1:54.56. Hartman broke the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:22.39) and 1,650-yard (17:08.09), earlier in the year. 

 

Maggie Rickert finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle. Her time of 52.72 was a new school record. She also took 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.70.

 


 

 

Abby Girard finished eighth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.00. In the preliminaries of the tournament, Abby broke the school record for the 100-yard backstroke. Her time was 58.30.

 

Josie Itzen took fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:09.80) and the 400-yard IM (4:35.35). These times place her second on the all-time best list at UNI.  She also finished 11th in the 100-yard freestlye clocking in at 53.93.

 

 Ashley Mangrich placed 10th in the 100-yard (1:07.66) and 200-yard (2:27.19) breaststroke. Ashley is second on the all-time best list behind former MVC champion Ericka Utoff-Schmuecker for the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.

 

• In the 200-yard backstroke, Abby Moes finished sixth clocking in at 2:07.03.

 

Stephanie Yattoni, with a time of 17:40.50, placed eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle. She moved to fourth in the all-time best list with this time. She is also fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.52.

 

•The Panthers received six MVC All-Conference honors. Chelsea Hartman earned first-team honors. Abby Girard, Josie Itzen, Abby Moes, Maggie Rickert and Stephanie Yattoni earned honorable mention honors.

 

•Abby Girard, Abby Girard, April Mangrich, Ashley Mangrich, Kelly Mateas, Kelly McCullough and Abby Moes were named to the 2009 Scholar-Athlete Team at the MVC meet.

 

• Head coach Stacey Simmer was named MVC Coach of the Year. It is the second Valley Coach of the Year honor for Simmer, as she also earned the award in 2007.
