Cedar Falls, Iowa - University of Northern Iowa head swimming coach Stacey Simmer has received a contract extension through 2012, UNI director of athletics Troy Dannen announced today.

"Stacey has made great strides in recent years re-establishing our program's competitiveness in the Missouri Valley Conference, as evidenced by her recognition as league coach of the year in 2009," Dannen said. "With the addition of diving to our program this fall, she is poised to have Northern Iowa in a position to contend for the conference championship. We are thankful that Stacey will continue to be a part of our program."

Simmer has just completed her seventh season as the Panthers' head swimming coach, twice earning Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors (2007 and 2009).

Under her guidance, UNI's swim team has rewritten the school record books. The Panthers' top time in every event has been established since Simmer took over the program in 2002, with nearly all of the school's top five times having been posted during her tenure as UNI's coach.
