On Oct. 17, 2009, the University of Northern Iowa held a dedication ceremony in honor of Glen F. Henry. Formally know as the Wellness Recreational Pool, the pool was rededicated and will now be named the Glen F. Henry Swimming and Diving pool.
In 1966, Glen F. Henry began his coaching career at the University of Northern Iowa by starting the UNI Men's Swimming & Diving program. In 1981, he started the UNI Women's Swimming & Diving program. Glen earned Conference Coach of the Year honors seven times and influenced many talented student athletes who achieved much success in aquatics and in their lives.
In his 38 years at UNI, Glen did much to develop the aquatics program. Glen served on the NCAA Swimming & Diving Rules Committee, Collegiate All-American Swimmer Selection Committee, and was a state, district and national swim clinician. Glen received the UNI Alumni Achievement Award, and in 2002 was inducted into the UNI Athletics Hall of Fame.
As an associate professor in the UNI School of Health, Physical Education & Leisure Services, Glen was a dedicated teacher who demanded excellence from his students. The swimming and diving pool is named after Glen F. Henry to appropriately recognize an outstanding coach, teacher, supporter, mentor and contributor to the greater good of the University of Northern Iowa.
