Swimming/Diving Notes

The Panthers last action came on Oct. 16 against Illinois State. Here are some notes about the meet:

• The Panthers fell short against the Illinois State Redbirds, 194-106.

• The Panthers finished with four top-spots. Chelsea Hartman, in the 1,000 and 500 freestyles, Abby Girard, in the 100 backstroke, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Maggie Rickert, Stephanie Frederick, Jean Matzen and Abby Girard.

• Hartman took the top-spot in both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle. Her times were 10:24.13 and 5:08.93, respectively. She also took fifth place in the 200 IM.

Abby Girard took the top-spot in the 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:00.75. She also took third in the 200-yard backstroke clocking in at 2:11.88, just a second off the second-place swimmer from Illinois State.

• With a time of 1:52.27, Abby Girard, Ashley Mangrich, Rickert and Frederick were able to grab the runner-up spot in the 200-yard medley relay.

Josie Itzen, with a time of 1:59.18, took runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle. Itzen also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (55.25) and 200-yard IM (2:15.64).

Ashley Mangrich grabbed the runner-up spot for the 100-yard breaststroke. She came in with a time of 1:10.22.

• In the 50-yard freestyle, Rickert and Frederick clocked in with times of 25.33 and 25.66, coming in second and third, respectively. Rickert, with a time of 1:01.20, also took second in the 100-yard butterfly.

• The divers took to the boards for the first time in school history. Bethany Olson grabbed the runner-up spot in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, while Lauren Nelson took third in the 3-meter dive and fifth in the 1-meter dive. Olson now holds the school record for both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
