Waterloo, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team was hitting on all cylinders today as they won 7-0 over the Phoenix from UW-Green Bay.

            UNI took all three doubles matches easily, with Meghana Paritala (Secunderabad, India/Andhra Pradesh) and Agnese Pukse (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary School #64) defeating UW-Green Bay's Heather Harding and Lauryn Grimando 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles position. In the No. 2 position, Carolina Hannes (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Jardim Sao Paulo) teamed up with Sampada Kanade (Mumbai, India/Modern English) to top Aschley Jurgella and Megan Gregory 8-1. The duo of Taynara Moraes and Meredith Esbeck won over Laura Bartingale and Amy Meissner 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles match.

            "This is a great beginning to our season," head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "We started out slow this morning, but picked it up and really played well. If we keep improving with every match, we should have a great season."

            The Panthers now have a two week break before meeting Upper Iowa and South Dakota State on Feb. 16^th in Waterloo, Iowa. The Upper Iowa meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and the South Dakota State meet beginning at 5 p.m.
