Final Stats

Rockford, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2007 season today against Illinois-Chicago.

            The doubles team of Meghana Paritala (Secunderabad, India/Andhra Pradesh) and Agnese Pukse (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary School #64) topped the duo of Callan Smith and Christina Oum 8-6 in the No. 1 singles position, but UNI wasn't able to come out with a victory in the No. 2 or 3 doubles spot, giving the doubles point to the Flames.

            In singles play, Paritala came out with a win at the No. 1 spot topping Smith 6-0, (3-6), 6-3. Sampada Kanade (Mumbai, India/ Modern English) topped Oum in the No. 4 spot 7-5, 7-6. Carolina Hannes (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ Colegio Jardim Sao Paulo) was also victorious in the No. 5 spot topping Illinois-Chicago's Jenna Rice 6-2, 6-2.

            "Today was a really hard fought match," UNI head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "We were just unfortunate we couldn't get a couple of big points in some matches."

            The Panthers are now 7-1 this season and return home to face Wisconsin-Milwaukee tomorrow in Waterloo at 11 a.m.
