Bowling Green, Ky. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team defeated Western Kentucky University 6-1 Wednesday. The Panthers jumped out in the lead taking two of three doubles matches, winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Once again the doubles teams were a mix and match, due to a shoulder injury to the Panthers No. 2 player Agnese Pukse (Riga, Latvia). In singles competition all players, except for Meghana Paritala (Secunderabad, India) at No. 1, had to play at one spot above where they normally play due to the injury to Pukse. The Panthers took five out of the six singles matches. At No. 1 singles Paritala fought hard in the first set, and then cruised past her opponent, Erin Fulkerson of WKU, to win 7-5, 6-3. Mariana Muraca (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Taynara Moreas (Santos, Brazil), Sara Kendall (Brisbane, Queensland), and Meredith Esbeck (West Des Moines, Iowa) all took home victories for the Panthers in singles competition. "The trip was good for the team as it gave us some much needed experience outside, which will help us in April." "Everyone played Solid," head coach Sachin Kirtane said.
