Final Stats

Valdosta, Ga. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team earned its' 10^th win of the 2007 season today over Florida A&M (5-7) in Valdosta, Ga. The Panthers (10-2) were able to win four singles matches and claim the doubles point to win 5-2 over the Lady Rattlers.

            Senior Mariana Muraca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ Elvira Brandao) played her first dual singles match this season after suffering from a knee injury. She topped FAMU's Samaria Bailey 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot.

            Meghana Paritala (Secunderabad, India/ Andhra Pradesh) won in the No. 1 singles spot 6-1, 7-6, (8-6) over Alice Izomor, while Taynara Moraes (Santos, Brazil/ Luiza Macuco) topped Sarah Brinkley 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles spot. Carolina Hannes also earned another victory in the No. 5 singles spot topping Ashley Green 6-0, 6-0.

            In doubles play, Sampada Kanade (Mumbai, India/Modern English) and Hannes teamed up to win over Brinkley and Izomor 8-1 at the No. 2 doubles spot. Muraca and Moraes also earned a victory in the No. 3 doubles spot topping Bailey and Green 8-1. 

            "We struggled a little today and really didn't play that well," UNI head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "It was good to get this win, but we need to start playing better outside. Hopefully this trip will help us further in the season when we do start playing outside."

            The Panthers will have a two week break to rest before heading into the first Missouri Valley Conference meet. The Panthers will face Drake April 1^st in Waterloo. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
