Final Stats

Waterloo, Iowa -  No. 27 Wichita State proved to be too much for the University of Northern Iowa (13-4, 2-1 MVC) today as they fell 7-0 to the Shockers (18-2, 4-0 MVC). Today was the first Missouri Valley Conference loss of the season for the Panthers.

            The Panthers fought hard against the Shockers in doubles play, with the duo of Mariana Muraca (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Taynara Moraes (Santos, Brazil) topping Torrie Browning and Jackie Richey 8-6 in the No. 3 match. In the No. 2 doubles match Carolina Hannes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Sampada Kanade (Mumbai, India) lost in close tie-breaker match to Stephanie Dalmacio and Anna Egorova 9-7. The No. 1 duo of Agnese Pukse (Riga, Latvia) and Meghana Paritala (Secunderabad, India) fell to Madina Rakhim and Florentina Hanisch 8-5, giving the doubles point to the Shockers.

            The Panthers were unable to earn any singles victories, giving the Shockers the 7-0 win.

            "I thought we played outstanding today in doubles," UNI head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "It was great to get the No.3 doubles win, and I thought we had some momentum going into singles, but Wichita State is a very good team. We showed some good points today, but it wasn't enough against this team."

            The Panthers will take to the courts again next Saturday, April 14, against Southern Illinois. The match will begin at 11:00 a.m.
