Final Stats

Omaha, Neb. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Creighton in its final tune-up before the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament today. The Panthers finish conference play at 5-3 and 13-8 overall, while Creighton falls to 0-8 in conference play and 7-12 overall.

In singles play, UNI senior Carolina Hannes won her 85th career singles match over Rachelle Shoji, 6-0, 6-3 in No. 5 singles and is now the all-time leader for career singles victories in UNI history. Hannes broke Nancy Land's 13 year-old record of 84 victories.

"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Carolina to become the all-time career wins leader in UNI history," head coach Sachin Kiratne said. "She has been solid for us all season and we know we can always count on her at the bottom of our line-up."

Fellow senior Meghana Partiala also made history today by winning her 84th career singles match over Lauren Mastro, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 in No. 2 singles. Paritala is now tied with Land for second on the Panthers' all-time wins list.

"This was a good win for Meghana today," Kirtane said. She has been real close to moving up on the career wins list charts the last few matches, and she was finally able to get over the hump today."

The Panthers will head to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament next weekend (April 25-27) in Omaha, Neb. The Panthers are projected to be the No. 4 seed and their opponent is still to be determined.
