Panther Women Claim Nine Events at UNI TwilightApril 23, 2005
Morgan Edwards (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) recorded another regionally qualifying performance when she threw 158-00 in the discus competition, taking first place. Edwards also captured the win in the shot put with a 46-1 1/4 distance and finished second in the hammer throw with a 168-1 distance. Ivana Barsic (Zabresic, Croatia/16th) followed in second place behind Edwards in the shot, throwing 45-1, and broke the UNI school record in the hammer throw for a 169-00 throw. Sarah Behrens (Marathon, Iowa/Laurens-Marathon) finished in fourth with a 46-3 1/2 distance. The Panther women dominated the competition in the 400 meters, with UNI athletes taking the top four places. Freshman Lauren Carruthers won the event in 56.26 with former UNI athlete Ravin Henry finishing in second, Lynnette Wilson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) in third (57.36) and Liz Bradfield (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) in fourth in 58.28. Shayla Houlihan (Sioux City, Iowa/Heelan) continued to perform well in the 1500 meter competition, winning the race in 4:53.68. The women's 4x100 meter relay team captured second (47.91), third (48.81) and fourth place (50.83), respectively. Blair Runde finished the day with a second-place finish in the 100 meters, clocking in at 12.24. Kara Yahn (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.40.
