This Week in Panther Track and Field:

The Panther Track and Field teams will travel to Oxford, Miss. to compete at the Ole Miss Invitational. Running and field events will begin Saturday (April 2) and the remainder of the heptathlon events will commence Sunday (April 3). Results will be posted after the events at www.unipanthers.com.

UNI Hosts Dickinson Relays

The University of Northern Iowa hosted the Dicksinson Relays this past weekend (March 24-26). The three-day meet featured male and female Class A and B athletes, making it one of the top high school meets in the state of Iowa. A total of 12 records were broken throughout the events.

UNI Returns From NCAA Championships with Five All-Americans

The University of Northern Iowa men's track and field teams sent Dirk Homewood, Jarno Kivioja, Cody Eichmeier, Terrence Reid and Ryan Kedley to the NCAA Indoor championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Sophomore Cody Eichmeier (Ackley, Iowa) earned All-American honors in the long jump at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships tonight, hosted by the University of Arkansas. Eichmeier leaped a personal-best 25 feet, 2 inches, finishing eighth.

Two other Panthers competed Friday night. Sophomore Jarno Kivioja (Porvoo, Finland) no-heighted in the pole vault, while senior Dirk Homewood (Cedar Falls, Iowa) was disqualified in the preliminaries of the 400 meters.
 

 

The University of Northern Iowa men's 4x400 meter relay earned All-America honors, finishing third tonight at the NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas.

UNI's foursome of Terrence Reid (Davenport, Iowa), Cody Eichmeier (Ackley, Iowa), Ryan Kedley (Lowdon, Iowa), and Dirk Homewood (Cedar Falls, Iowa) clocked a 3:04.95 time in its heat. The University of Florida won the event with a time of 3:03.51, while Baylor was second in 3:04.72.

The 3:04.95 is the second-fastest time in UNI history, second only to the school-record 3:04.61 that the Panthers ran last weekend in Ames, Iowa.
