Cedar Falls -

The University of Northern Iowa track and field program has 27 new student-athletes for the 2005-06 year, director of running programs Chris Bucknam announced today. The field of 27 recruits is expected to bring high talent levels to all aspects of the Panther program.

"We are extremely excited about the new group of athletes we have coming in for both the women's and men's programs," said Bucknam. "They are going to add some quality and depth to a variety of event areas. Adding this crew with our talented veterans, it should be an exciting year for the Panthers."

The group of athletes includes three sprinters, three throwers, two hurdlers, nine long sprinters/ middle-distance runners, six distance runners, and five multi-event athletes. The list of signees is as follows:

Sprinters:

-Ben Lueth - a talented sprinter from Ames High School

-Lindsay Wiebers - anchored multiple state champion relay teams for Denison-Schleswig High School

-Josh Webb - state champion sprinter from Cedar Falls High School

Throwers:

-Jesse Smith - was a state champion discus thrower for North Fayette High School...Also a runner-up at the Drake Relays

-Courtney Landers - from North Butler High School...Placed third at state

-Lucas Cook - transferring from St. Ambrose

Hurdlers:

-Dennis Hammel - state champion in the 400m hurdles...Runner-up at the Drake Relays...From Davenport, Iowa

-Greg Offerman - from Charles City High School...The number-one 400m hurdler in the country...A multiple state champion and record holder

Long Sprinters and middle distance runners

-Cory Goos - from West Liberty High School...State champion in the 400 and 800

-Tyler Mulder - from Unity Christian High School...State champion in the 400 and 800


 

 

-Mike Craddick - from Davenport Assumption...State champion 800m runner and runner-up in the 200 and 400

-Nick Sorbe - talented athlete transferring from Simpson College

-D.J. Gillette - all state runner from Cedar Falls High School

-Whitney Johnson - all-state runner from Adel High School

-Sarah Johnston - all-state runner from Pekin of Packwood

-Moa Westman - junior national champion middle distance runner from Sweden

Distance:

Chris Anderson - all-state runner from Colorado Springs, Colo.

-Caedryn Schrunk - state champion runner from Spirit Lake

-Valerie Crutchley - state champion runner from Cedar Rapids Marion

-Ariana Wolf - all-state runner from South Hamilton

-Lauren Erickson - all-state runner from Mt. Pleasant

-Amanda Huling - from Hampton-Dumont

Multi-eventers

-Hope Buehler - can compete as a jumper, sprinter or hurdler...State champion in the triple jump...From Sheboygan Falls, Wis.

-Kristi Green - multi talented athlete with experience in the high jump and hurdles, ...From Southern Cal Lake City High School in Iowa

-Alyssa Fischer - capable of competing as a jumper, sprinter and multi-eventer...From Cedar Rapids Kennedy

-Mat Clark - placed fifth at the Junior Olympic national meet in the decathlon. Also a talented high jumper and 400 hurdler...From Ames, Iowa
