Final Stats

Wichita, Kan. - Wichita State posted a 3-0 win over the University of Northern Iowa volleyball team Friday night in front of 3,326 fans at Charles Koch Arena. Game scores were 30-13, 30-27 and 30-20. Wichita State improved to 11-2 overall, 3-0 in the MVC, while UNI fell to 9-6, 1-1 in conference.

Senior middle blocker Trista Humpal (New Hampton, Iowa) led the way for UNI with 12 kills, while adding five blocks. Fellow senior Stephanie May (Dubuque, Iowa) had 12 digs.

Wichita State scored the first six points of the match and cruised to a 30-13 win in the first game. The Shockers hit .481 (16-3-27) in the first game, while UNI hit .107 (9-6-28).

WSU jumped out early in game two, holding leads of 10-5, 14-7 and 20-12. But UNI battled back, pulling within four at 24-20. The Shockers moved to a 29-24 lead, before a Danielle Brazda (Omaha, Neb.) kill and two straight WSU hitting errors pulled the Panthers within 29-27. However, the Shockers scored the next point to earn a 30-27 win.

UNI held an early 6-3 lead in game three, thanks in part by four early Panther blocks. Trailing 10-9, WSU scored four straight points to move ahead 13-10, and after UNI pulled within 15-13, the Shockers scored three more in a row to build an 18-13 advantage. The Panthers were unable to get closer than five points the rest of the way as WSU eventually won, 30-20.

UNI travels to Springfield, Mo., tomorrow afternoon to face Missouri State. First serve from Hammons Student Center is set for 4:00 p.m., and the game can be heard live on KWLO 1330-AM.
