Des Moines, Iowa - Senior middle blocker Trista Humpal (New Hampton, Iowa) had 14 kills to lead the University of Northern Iowa volleyball team to a 3-0 win at Drake Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 30-26, 30-20 and 30-24. With the win - it's fifth straight and ninth in its last 11 matches - UNI improves to 14-6 overall, 6-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Drake falls to 3-14, 0-7.

Freshman outside hitter Shannon Aschoff (Ankeny, Iowa) had nine kills, while junior outside hitter Laura Rowen (Hansell, Iowa) added eight. UNI hit .266 (54-21-124) for the match, while Drake hit .108 (38-25-120).

Both teams were clicking offensively in the first game, as UNI hit .432 (21-5-37) while Drake hit .382 (18-5-34). UNI held a 22-21 lead before kills by Kristin Belzung (Ankeny, Iowa) and Humpal extended its advantage to 24-21. After a Drake kill, the Panthers got another kill from Humpal and back-to-back put aways from Aschoff to make the score 27-22. UNI eventually won, 30-24.

The Panthers' hot hitting continued in the second game, as they posted a .368 (18-4-38) percentage. Holding a 16-15 lead midway through the first game, UNI went on a 5-0 run to make the score 21-15. Drake got no closer than five the rest of the way as UNI posted a 30-20 win.

UNI jumped to leads of 9-2 and 16-6 in the third game, but Drake rallied. With the score 22-14 in favor of the Panthers, the Bulldogs scored seven straight points to pull within 22-21. But Rowen answered with a kill, and Amy Sampson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had back-to-back kills right after that, to give the Panthers a 25-21 cushion, and UNI eventually claimed a 30-24 victory. Drake hit -.100 (8-13-50) in the third game.
