Final Stats

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Shannon Aschoff (Ankeny, Iowa) was one of four players in double-figure kills as the University of Northern Iowa posted a 3-0 sweep over Indiana State tonight at the McLeod Center. Game scores were 30-13, 30-15 and 30-20.

Aschoff was joined in double digits by Danielle Brazda (Omaha, Neb.) with 10, and Ashten Stelken (Manchester, Iowa) and Laura Rowen (Hansell, Iowa) with 10 each. Amy Sampson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added nine kills for the Panthers, and freshman libero Ellie Blankenship (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) led the defense with 23 digs. UNI hit an impressive .495 (63-8-111) for the match, which was the team's highest hitting percentage since recording a .537 mark against Iowa State on Sept. 14, 1999. The Panthers also ran their streak to seven straight matches holding their opponent to less than a .200 attack percentage, as the Sycamores hit .130.

The Panthers were clicking offensively from the outset tonight, jumping to a 7-0 lead to start the match, sparked by Stelken's three early kills. UNI held a double-digit lead for much of the first game, as it hit .486 to .000 for Indiana State. Stelken, Aschoff and Sampson each had five kills in the first game for the Panthers as they won, 30-13.

UNI jumped to leads of 5-0, 8-2 and 17-6 in game two, as it cruised to a 30-15 win. Rowen and Aschoff each had seven kills in the game, as the Panthers hit a whopping .632, racking up 24 total kills with zero attack errors.

The score was knotted at 13-all in the third game, before UNI went on an 8-1 run to put the game out of reach. Sampson, Stelken and setter Kristin Belzung (Ankeny, Iowa) each had kills during that stretch. The Panthers hit .368 in the third game to .088 for Indiana State, as they claimed a 30-20 win.

UNI has now won eight matches in a row, while improving its record to 17-9 overall, 11-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Indiana State dropped its 16th straight to fall to 3-20, 0-15 in conference. UNI's next match is Friday, Nov. 9, when it travels to face Evansville.
