Stelken Earns Third-Team Academic All-District HonorsNov. 6, 2008
Cedar Falls, Iowa - University of Northern Iowa senior middle blocker Ashten Stelken has received third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII honors, as voted on by the members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Stelken ranks third in the nation averaging 1.55 blocks per set this season. She also averages 2.90 kills per set and has recorded a .295 hitting percentage. She ranks fifth on UNI's career blocks list (532) and is 10th on the Panthers all-time kills list (1,154). Stelken, who holds a 3.40 cumulative grade point average in elementary education, has helped guide UNI to a 20-5 overall record, 10-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. District VII includes schools in the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Selections are open to student-athletes who have reached sophomore academic standing and carry at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. The Panther volleyball team travels to face Bradley this Saturday night in Peoria, Ill., with first serve set for 7:00 pm. The match can be heard on Star 1330 (KWLO 1330 AM).
