Normal, Ill. - University of Northern Iowa head volleyball coach Bobbi Petersen was honored tonight by being named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

Petersen has guided the Panthers to a 25-7 mark, 16-2 in the MVC, winning the league's regular-season championship. It is her first MVC coach of the year award.

In seven years as UNI's coach, she has an overall record of 178-49, including104-22 in MVC matches. She has captured three Missouri Valley Conference regular season titles and three league tournament titles, with three trips to the NCAA tournament. She led UNI to the NCAA Sweet 16 in both 2001 and 2002. She was named the AVCA National Coach of the Year in 2002 when she led UNI to a 34-3 mark.

The top-seeded Panthers open play in the MVC tournament tomorrow (Nov. 24) when they will face either fourth-seeded Creighton or fifth-seeded Illinois State at 5:00 p.m. in the semifinals. The championship match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 25).
