St. Louis, Mo. - University of Northern Iowa senior middle blocker Ashten Stelken has been named to the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete First Team, the league office announced today.

Stelken, who was also a first-team MVC scholar-athlete in 2007, holds a 3.40 cumulative GPA in elementary education. She averages 3.01 kills per set, and ranks fifth nationally with 1.48 blocks per set.

To be eligible to receive Valley scholar-athlete honors, a player must be a starter or important reserve and a 3.00 minimum cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at their school.

UNI, 23-7 overall, earned the third seed at this week's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament, held in Wichita, Kan. The Panthers will face sixth-seeded Evansville in their first match on Thur., Nov. 27 at 6 pm. The match can be heard live locally on KWLO 1330 AM.
